Europe Direct Valletta is one of many Europe Direct Information Centres (EDIC) around the whole of Europe, almost 500 that together make up the Europe Direct Network. We are however only one of three in Malta together with EDIC Central Region Malta and EDIC Victoria Gozo. Europe Direct Valletta has started operating in 2013.
The EUROPE DIRECT network is one of the Commission’s main tools to offer information to citizens at local level and to gather citizens` feedback for the European Institutions. EDICs are a direct entry point to the Union for the citizens, offering general EU information, referring to specialised information sources, raising awareness and promoting debate.
The mission of Europe Direct Valletta is to promote an informed and active European citizenship also in cooperation with other EDICs and the EC Representations in Malta amongst others. We provide an active approach to communication that ranges from answering/processing queries, to interacting with local stakeholders, multipliers and media, while stimulating debate through the organisation of conferences and events.
Europe Direct Valletta provides any one with general information about EU and answers to questions on any European Union policy. It provides practical and easy to understand information on dozens of subjects: for example, how to get your qualifications recognized, what are my health rights when travelling within the EU, how to complain about unsafe products, etc… We also give advice to help the citizen overcome practical problems with exercising their rights in Europe. Where required we provide also contact details of relevant organisations the citizen may need to deal with.
Europe Direct Valletta is hosted by the office of GRTU Malta Chamber of SMEs and is administered by GRTU’s EU Desk, which is led by EU and international affairs executive Abigail Psaila Mamo.
